Hispanic Grocery Chains: Celebrating Cinco de Mayo‍

Hispanic grocery stores have increased at a rapid pace across the nation.  Many of these chains are performing admirably YoY. Vallarta Supermarkets saw the greatest YoY increase in the late spring/early summer of May-July 2022. This chain is California-based, and has a variety of departments including carniceria, seafood, tortilleria, taqueria, cremeria, and specialty foods from Mexico, Central, and South America.  In the most recent quarter, Northgate Gonzalez Markets is seeing the greatest YoY increase. This SoCal favorite includes freshly-baked goods daily and a commitment to partnering with local farms. Superior Grocers promises to sell groceries at prices “lower than anyone else” thanks to their warehouse format. This strategy appears to be working just fine, as foot traffic has consistently been over last year’s. On the other side of the country, we have Sedano’s Supermarket, based out of Florida.  Started by a businessman with roots from Cuba, this chain has now spread throughout central and south Florida. Cardenas Market has a presence in California, Nevada, and Arizona, and aims for family-like friendliness in their service.  Bravo Supermarkets are independently owned and operated, thus are able to cater to locals that range from New York all the way down to Florida. If you’re in Texas, then head on over to Fiesta Mart which serves hot breakfast, lunch and dinner. Fresco y Mas is a newer entrant, founded in 2016, that serves customers throughout Florida. Traffic was up nearly 20% YoY for this chain in Oct 2022.
