Shopping Centers: How Back-to-School Impacts Different Property Types

Summer is often when Back-to-School shopping occurs. While outlet malls generally see their highest visitation during Black Friday weekend and the Christmas holiday, late July/early August is another popular time to stock up on all those clothing necessities for school.

Compared to a baseline of August, visits to high street retail corridors are up year-over-year, whereas visits to open-air lifestyle centers, indoor malls, and outlet malls are down year-over-year.

Among ever-popular youth brands, Nike Factory Outlets see their biggest spike the first week in August, followed by Under Armour Outlet and Adidas Outlet.

Whereas Vans Outlet is not visited at the scale of some of the youth clothing giants--which is likely a result of some of the brand challenges we've pointed out earlier this year--it has seen the greatest year-over-year growth.
