- We compared some of Los Angeles’ most popular malls with famous shopping streets to see how shoppers behaved over the holidays. Thanksgiving and Black Friday clearly equate to malls in shoppers’ minds, with large spikes that week. Mall visitation continued to increase from early Dec onward, peaking for Del Amo Fashion Center the weekend of Dec 19, whereas last-minute shoppers continued to visit Westfield Century City and The Grove during the week leading up to Christmas.
- However, Rodeo Drive was no slouch. It was the highest-trafficked location among the street retail destinations and appears to be more of a year-round destination. Shoppers likely weren’t expecting as many Black Friday deals on one of the priciest streets in the nation, so we don’t see the same jump during Thanksgiving weekend, but visitation throughout the holiday season was right up there with the malls
- Compared to 2021, street shopping for Holiday 2022 saw an increase in December. This is good news for rents, and shows signs of a strengthening market in L.A.
- However, with the exception of Del Amo Fashion Center, there’s still room to catch up to pre-Covid visitation rates.
